This is a term used to describe why oil
seals fail prematurely.
A pump with too much clearance in the connecting
rod and crankshaft connection may not push the plunger in a straight
line. A bent connecting rod will have the same effect on the plungers.
As a result the connecting rods will run in a circular motion, wearing the
seals out prematurely. This condition can have a serious effect on the
plungers and plunger packings as well.
Looks for sloppy fitting
connecting rods and put a straight edge on the connecting rod to diagnose this
problem.
