PLUNGERS RUNNING SIDEWAYS

Check for undue stress on plungers

This is a term used to describe why oil seals fail prematurely.

A pump with too much clearance in the connecting rod and crankshaft connection may not push the plunger in a straight line.  A bent connecting rod will have the same effect on the plungers.

As a result the connecting rods will run in a circular motion, wearing the seals out prematurely.  This condition can have a serious effect on the plungers and plunger packings as well.

Looks for sloppy fitting connecting rods and put a straight edge on the connecting rod to diagnose this problem.
